Wipers in the Air … Proactively Idiotic

Do you like thinking about odd proactive measures? — then people sticking their windshield wipers out in the air before it snows is one you can’t miss. So why do people do this? One answer is that it prevents the wipers from freezing to the windshield, and if you’re inclined to clear ice and snow from the bottom of your windshield, having them up is helpful. But really … why? Theres a fine line between choosing to be proactive or reactive and it moves depending on the situation and the person in it. Sometimes the potential consequence of not taking a proactive measure is extremely high, like locking your door when you leave your home, it takes a bit of time but it helps prevent burglary. Sometimes the potential consequence is not that high, like having to spend a few extra seconds unfreezing your wipers when you start your car. In this case it might be better to wait and leave those wipers where they are, because it might not even snow at all, and then you’ll just be an idiot who’s got to knock their wipers down in the morning.
